Update on the Coast to Coast Connector

os-gfx-florida-trail-coast-coast-20130504Florida bicyclists’ may see their wishes coming true this year- a safe, continuous bike trail connecting Central Florida’s coastlines.

The Coast-to-Coast Connector is back on the legislative agenda to fill in the gaps between existing bike trails across the state.   Despite getting vetoed by the governor last year, Sen. Andy Gardiner, R-Orlando, has declared it is one of his top priorities as he prepares to become the Senate president in November.  It has also been pushed as a priority to 11 stakeholder metropolitan planning organizations.

This is the first project of its kind in the nation.  It serves a pivotal role for the bicycling community in a state notorious for dangerous cycling conditions. State policymakers are backing up the $50 million project, recognizing the benefits for residents as well as the potential to attract tourists to Florida’s natural beauty.
