Begin easing into fall with the Camp Boggy Creek Challenge Ride

imgresCooler weather, football season, and pumpkin everything – it’s almost time. The fall equinox doesn’t happen until September 23rd, but you can start easing into the season with the Camp Boggy Creek Challenge Ride in Lake County on September 12, 2015.

The ride features routes of 40 and 60 miles, as well as a short, 15-mile off-road ride through the Seminole State Forest, which surrounds the camp’s 232 acres. The longer rides take you down and up Thrill Hill in Eustis before rolling to Mount Dora, where a SAG stop awaits at Gilbert Park.

The 60-mile ride then heads off around Lake Dora. All rides begin and end at Camp Boggy Creek, which is off State Road 44 east of Eustis, about 6 miles east of the S.R. 44 and County Road 46A intersection. (Note that traffic is busy on S.R. 44, but there is a good shoulder.)

Cyclists for the longer rides pay a $40 registration fee and must raise a minimum of $250. The off-road ride is great for families, and no fund-raising is required. Registration is $40 for adults, but only $15 for ages 8 to 17.

Camp Boggy Creek provides a place for children with certain medical conditions and their families to spent time outdoors — riding horses, hiking, swimming and more. One of its founders was the actor Paul Newman.

The event already has pledges of more than $200,000, with a goal of $225,000. Even if you can’t ride, you can still make a donation.
