BWCF and Partners Spread Holiday Cheer

On the third day of Christmas… BWCF attends three holiday bike giveaways!

On Friday, December 19, we had the chance to come together and celebrate the holidays (and cycling safety) with many of our partners. On Friday, we had a blast at the Helmets Save Lives Christmas Party at the Dover Shores Community Center. Abundant Christmas lights and décor, games, snacks and even a holiday movie kept 200 Orlando kids and families in the holiday spirit. And, the City of Orlando raffled 50 bicycles and gave away toys at the event. We stepped in to share safety tips to kids for riding their new bikes and properly fit them with free helmets courtesy of FDOT.

On Saturday, December 20, we celebrated and educated at back-to-back events in Washington Shores and at Grand Avenue Park! The day of bike advocacy and holiday cheer kicked off with Commissioner Samuel Ings at the James R. Smith Community Center for the Washington Shores Christmas Parade and Celebration. More than 400 neighbors came together for a Christmas parade, performances, food and a bicycle raffle! The children that won bikes in the raffles were all smiles as they wheeled their early Christmas present over to the BWCF table to get a new, properly fitting helmet, again, free courtesy of FDOT.

Later in the day, at Grand Avenue Park for the Holden Heights Christmas Celebration, BWCF and partners were determined not to let rain dull our Christmas joy! Even more Central Florida children won free bikes in Commissioner Ings second raffle of the day, and we fit 28 additional free helmets. Though the rain came pouring down quickly after, everyone left with smiling faces and hands full of ped/bike safety tips.

Thanks to all our partners involved in these events for a great opportunity to celebrate the holidays and put a smile on the faces of our littler cyclists. We wouldn’t have wanted to spend the weekend before Christmas any other way!
