Communications and Marketing Intern

Bike/Walk Central Florida (BWCF) seeks a communications intern to help raise awareness of bicycling and pedestrian safety programs and advocacy. About Bike/Walk Central Florida

BWCF educates and advocates to make communities more walkable, bikeable, and rollable. We strive toward a connected and equitable transportation system that is safe and comfortable for all. BWCF manages the Best Foot Forward for pedestrian safety program and the Healthy West Orange Trails Connection for our partners. The organization also hosts events such as Bike 5 Cities, focusing on comfortable routes for all road users.

Position Summary

This position will assist the executive director and program managers with communications including social media, website management, graphics, report preparation, and community outreach in partnership with local city governments, law enforcement agencies, schools, transportation agencies, and area neighborhoods. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, edit and write for website and newsletter 
  • Create and repurpose content that drives deeper engagement 
  • Draft social media content and campaigns, monitor social media channels and identify opportunities to engage on social media
  • Proofread at every step in the process
  • Develop recaps and assist in creating monthly reports on the impact of community programs. 
  • Edit community outreach recaps and repurposes them for website articles
  • Take notes and recap internal and partner meetings
  • Help maintain databases, partner lists, and project trackers.
  • Maintain an inventory of all event supplies.
  • Execute and support other administrative projects as needed.

Required skills

  • Recent graduate or in pursuit of Bachelors or graduate degree at an accredited institution with a current class standing of Junior or above.
  • Basic understanding of social media platforms
  • Familiar with the public relations, digital marketing, or communications discipline through past coursework, internships, or personal experiences 
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and WordPress.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to stay on task while working independently or with others
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Commitment to biking and walking as part of healthy community infrastructure.

  • Extended periods of sitting, walking, and/or standing
  • Ability to lift, carry, and or move up to 25 pounds
  • Bending, reaching, kneeling
