About Bike/Walk Central Florida  

Bike/Walk Central Florida was born out of a belief that few people get into their cars, ride their bikes, or walk across the street with the intention of colliding. However, Central Florida has a history of designing roads for speed and convenience rather than walking or biking; we can no longer accept that biking, and walking injuries are inevitable. We believe that it is our duty to protect the most vulnerable road users and make walking and biking in Central Florida the norm.   

 Bike/Walk Central Florida educates and advocates to make communities more walkable, bikeable, and rollable. We strive towards a connected and equitable transportation system that is safe and comfortable for all. BWCF manages the Best Foot Forward for Pedestrian Safety Program and the Healthy West Orange Trails Connection on behalf of our partners. The organization also hosts events such as Bike 5 Cities, focusing on comfortable routes for all road users, and Bike/Walk Kids, educating our youth on safe cycling and walking habits.   

Position Summary   

Location: Work from home, with the ability and willingness to work weekends and evenings to support Bike/Walk Central Florida events and activities. Shared workspace and office resources are available at the BWCF office in Downtown Orlando.  

Schedule:         Full-time (40 hours/week) with a flexible schedule.  

This position supports the organization’s marketing and fundraising initiatives with the planning, executing, and tracking of marketing and fundraising programs such as events, direct mail, email, social media, public relations, and content marketing. Acts as a central point of contact for contracted vendors providing marketing, communications, or public relations services to the organization. In addition, this position performs day-to-day activities to build and maintain sustainable revenue in partnership with donors, foundations, corporate partners, and governments and maintains close working relationships with other job functions such as Finance, Communications, and Events to develop and leverage relationships that result in meeting or exceeding the target fundraising goals.  

Job Responsibilities: Marketing

  • Responsible for working collaboratively with program staff to effectively communicate the organization’s overall marketing and communications needs with outside vendors.
  • Works closely with teammates and outside vendors in crafting messaging, activities, and marketing and communications for events.
  • Maintains annual marketing calendar and tracks program events and campaigns.
  • Reviews provided social media calendar and content regularly.
  • Creates compelling content and communicates impact in a way that engages and resonates with other people.
  • Develops creative designs that incorporate photos, videos and graphics that bring our mission to life and inspire action.
  • Coordinates and disseminates marketing messaging or content via mail or digital platforms.
  • Formats and compiles content for weekly newsletter, and targeted marketing emails as needed.
  • Trains staff on media messaging and coordinates interview requests with media or public information officers.
  • Ensures accurate and quality information for the organization’s online profile presence on watchdog websites and search engines.
  • Performs regular website updates through WordPress.
  • Prepares presentations and supports a wide range of one-time or seasonal projects, and other administrative duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities: Fundraising

  • Assists in the implementation and execution of the organization’s fundraising strategy to meet year-end goals.
  • Effectively communicates the organization’s mission and achievements to prospective funders.
  • Facilitates and supports the research and identification of funding opportunities.
  • Maintains databases and systems for recording and tracking donors, donations, grant proposals and awards, and related information.
  • Provides input and content for fundraising appeals, newsletters, impact reports, annual report, and other donor-focused materials.
  • Collaborates with program staff to gather success stories, testimonials and quantitative data that showcase the tangible outcomes of donors’ support.
  • Creates and distributes standard and special reports or summaries as required.
  • Maintains a calendar of upcoming grant application deadlines and a portfolio of active and pending grants and provides monthly status reports.
  • Supports the Executive Director in developing, preparing, and submitting grant applications.
  • Stays current with foundation trends and giving priorities.

Job Responsibilities: Donor Management

  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with donors, acting as a reliable trusted point of contact.
  • Coordinates with the communications team to engage both current and prospective donors.
  • Identifies opportunities for deeper engagement and involvement, such as volunteering, events, or advisory roles.
  • Tracks and ensures sponsorship deliverables are met.

Required Skills  

  • Minimum 1 year experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Adept at using technology to build automations and integrations into our communications workflows, while managing data related to campaigns and audiences.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, WordPress, Canva, Adobe CC and MailChimp.
  • Skilled with different forms of creative expression, both written and visual.
  • Effective project and time management, process-oriented thinking, and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while meeting all required deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and proactive commitment to ongoing learning and improvement, both as an individual and as part of a whole staff team.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed, with advanced notice.
  • Ability to stay on task while working independently or with others.  
  • Commitment to biking and walking as part of a healthy community infrastructure.  
  • Applicants must have reliable personal transportation. 
  • Applicants must live within Central Florida. 

  Physical Requirements  

  • Extended periods of sitting, walking, and/or standing. 
  • Ability to lift, carry, and or move up to 25 pounds.  
  • Bending, reaching, kneeling.
