Vision Walk

The Foundation Fighting Blindness (www.FightBlindness.org) will host its 6th Annual Orlando 5K Vision Walk on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Cypress Grove Park, 290 W. Holden Avenue, Orlando, FL 32839.  Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the Walk will start at 9 a.m.  To participate in the Orlando VisionWalk, or to learn more, visit www.VisionWalk.org, or call Keytia Ortiz, Events Manager, at 866-782-7330.

Mayor’s Bike to Work Day

Enjoy the Mayor’s Bike To Work Day, led by Orlando’s Buddy Dyer, May 6,  at 7:30 a.m., from Infusion Tea on Edgewater Drive. Start lining up your work teams and bike in to work together. Details at cityoforlando.net.  This will be a fun and fabulous event with major surprises.  Don’t miss out!

Walk for a Good Cause

Mary Chiozza says, “Let’s Move Together!”  This energetic mother of two active boys doesn’t let arthritis slow her down, so let’s walk with Mary to help raise funds for a cure.  Click here to donate at Mary’s fundraising page, and click here to learn more about the Orlando walk at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 14th at Lake Eola.

Ride of Silence

The East Side Cycling Club will host the local observation of the national Ride of Silence (www.rideofsilence.org) to remember riders killed or injured while cycling.  Mark your calendar for Wednesday, May 18, for departure at 6:00 p.m. from the Avalon Park YMCA.  This is a somber event, but one you won’t soon forget.

Yoga for Cyclists at David’s World Cycles

In Lake Mary (1210 International Parkway, Suite 158), the classes are on Monday evenings from 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

$10.00 per class; your 5th class is free!  You need to bring:

•             comfortable, loose- fitting clothing

•             large beach towel

•             hand towel

•             water

•             yoga mat (a few will be available for your use at DWC, but it is best to have your own)

First Fridays: Take it to the streets bike ride to promote civility: 6 p.m. on the First Friday of each month. Check our Facebook Fan page for start locations.

UCF Bike Bus: Downtown Orlando to UCF, then UCF to Downtown Orlando. Follow bike bus in real time via GPS at http://commuteorlando.com/bikebus/

Ride With Steve: Beginner ride. Meet at Winter Garden Wheel Works in Downtown Winter Garden, 8 a.m., Saturdays. – Sponsored by Winter Garden Wheel Works  .

Pancake Rides: St. Johns Cycles has re-started its Pancake Rides. You start from the shop at 1732 Rinehart Road in Sanford at 8:00 a.m. for the 60-mile option or from Valentine Park in Orange City for the 30-mile option and pedal to DeLeon Springs State Park to enjoy breakfast at the Old Sugarmill Restaurant – this is the place where hot griddles sit in the middle of the tables – you’re brought a pitcher of pancake batter and you make your own.  You need to RSVP to [email protected].  Call 407-323-1550 for more information!

S-Cargo farmers market rides featuring utility bikes and trailers

Ice Cream Socials: night rides through Downtown Orlando

Unless specifically designated as a trail ride, our rides take place on public streets. Headlights and red rear flashers are required for night rides. Helmets are encouraged, and are required for children under 16.

We observe all traffic laws and traffic signals.

Our rides are typically 10 to 15 miles, roundtrip, and average 10 miles an hour, a comfortable pace for most adults and teens. May be too fast for younger children and adults with health issues.

These rides are social in nature.

If you prefer a slow ride bike group, try the Backpack Bikers, on Saturdays at 11 am outside by the bike rack at the 24-hour fitness club by Super Target near the corner of Orange Avenue and Michgan Street in the Crystal Lake Subdivision.  Contact Cynthia Morrison at [email protected] .
