Orange County Judge Dismisses Redlight Camera Lawsuit

A driver of a commercial vehicle ran a red light at an Orlando intersection last summer, and received a $262 fine.  He sued the City of Orlando, claiming red light cameras are unconstitutional, and are used to meet ticket quotas.  The city argued that his driving was dangerous, and that the cameras simply provide information to law enforcers, who then decide if the law has been violated.  The case was dismissed.  Next month, judges, attorneys, and their clients will meet to discuss issues surrounding the cameras.  This case could set a precedent.

BWCF Can Help with Tickets

Not all public safety officers are aware of all the permutations of bicycling laws.  Bike/Walk Central Florida encourages cyclists to avoid confrontation with law enforcement on the street. Instead, please get the officer’s name and badge number (ask for a business card), and forward the information to us, along with the particulars of the case. We are working on your behalf to improve relations with law enforcement, and would welcome the opportunity to help.
