Everyone remembers the bicycling scene in the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (in fact, we bet you’re humming Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head right now.) And who could forget the image of Elliot giving E.T. a ride on his handlebars, silhouetted against a harvest moon? So what other great movie scenes feature bicycles? Cycling Savvy
Cycling Savvy will teach you to ride predictably and visibly, and to communicate clearly with your fellow commuters. Here’s a link to a story written by a recent graduate of the class.

UCF Bike Bus: Mondays and Wednesdays: 7 a.m. Downtown Orlando to UCF, 5 p.m. UCF to Downtown Orlando, follow bike bus in real time via GPS at http://commuteorlando.com/bikebus/
Ride With Steve: Beginner ride. Meet at Winter Garden Wheel Works in Downtown Winter Garden, 8 a.m., Saturdays. – Sponsored by Winter Garden Wheel Works .

S-Cargo farmers market rides featuring utility bikes and trailers
Ice Cream Socials: night rides through Downtown Orlando
Unless specifically designated as a trail ride, our rides take place on public streets. Headlights and red rear flashers are required for night rides. Helmets are encouraged, and are required for children under 16.
We observe all traffic laws and traffic signals.
Our rides are typically 10 to 15 miles, roundtrip, and average 10 miles an hour, a comfortable pace for most adults and teens. May be too fast for younger children and adults with health issues.
These rides are social in nature.

Lakemont Elementary School (Winter Park)
Two (2) rides depart this Saturday, January 15, at 7:30 a.m.:
(1) the 39-mile Oviedo Loop – four (4) groups: the first (25+ mph) goes straight through; the second (23+ mph) goes straight through; the third (20+ mph) stops at the 7-11 halfway to tell jokes; the fourth holds an endurance pace (18 mph) and no one gets dropped (they stop halfway too)!
(2) the extended Oviedo Loop – portions of the first and third groups break from the Oviedo Loop by turning right at the firehouse behind UCF; the first group goes 65 miles; the third group goes 56 miles; and,
For Sunday, January 16, show up at Lakemont Elementary at 7:30 a.m.: – the group decides the route (but it’s almost always the Panera Bread Frolic)!
Remember, there’s no dues and no insurance – you show up, you ride at your own risk.
Florida Freewheelers
Don’t forget to check out the Florida Freewheelers rides every weekend – you can visit their website at http://www.floridafreewheelers.com/ and see their schedule anytime (it’s also got directions and phone numbers for the ride leaders).
On Saturday, January 15, Ben Anderson will lead a 60-mile ride at an A/B pace leaving at 8:00 a.m. from the West Orange Trailhead; Nancy Matteson will lead the Lake Mary ride with 33 & 44 mile options at a B/C pace from the Lake Mary Shopping Center; Dave Chandler will lead a 20-mile Social ride at 8:00 a.m. from the Festival Park in Orlando and Stuart Beal will lead an ATB ride at 8:00 a.m. from the Environmental Center near Winter Springs; on Sunday, January 16, Bob James will lead the 30-mile Geneva Joyride at a B/C pace from Mullet Lake Park near Geneva and Aida Tatum will lead a 25-mile Touring ride from Blake Park in Lake Helen; on Tuesday, January 18, Penny Potter will lead a B/C ride with options from 15 to 48 miles on the West Orange Trail from Chapin Station in Winter Garden; on Thursday, January 20, Phil Mings will lead a 20-mile Social ride from the Home Depot Plaza in Oviedo and Penny Potter will lead a B/C ride with options from 15 to 48 miles on the West Orange Trail from Chapin Station in Winter Garden.
All weekend Freewheeler rides start at 9:00 a.m. (unless noted differently, and several are . . . ) – the Freewheelers have a deserved reputation for being prompt: 9:00 a.m. means 9:00 a.m.!
The Winter Park YMCA (1201 North Lakemont Avenue) is the starting point for several weekday morning rides:
a. 7:00 a.m. on Tuesdays and at 6:30 a.m. on Fridays. Tuesday is “Small Chain Ring Day.” Friday is fast. Contact Cori at [email protected] or just show up!
b. An informal group leaves on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 a.m. for 30 miles at a moderate pace. Show up and ride!

The Seminole Cyclists (http://www.seminolecyclist.org/) have great turnouts with a full menu of rides. Matt Cannavino is President of the club.
East Side Cycling Club (Avalon Park) – http://www.eastsidecyclingclub.org/: The group has built strong standing rides.

Orlando International Airport
These completely unofficial rides have become very popular if you don’t mind making the jaunt to the Orlando International Airport area. Starting as early as 4:30 p.m. and going until after 9:00 p.m., riders (organized and unorganized) show up to ride the 9.5 mile “out-and-back” course along Heintzelman Boulevard. You can throw in the hill over the Beachline Expressway for a little extra fun. There is a bike lane and very little traffic. Expect to see everyone sooner or later.
