If you’re on the East side of Orlando, especially in the UCF area, check out the Central Florida Bike Bus. It is a group that commutes from downtown Orlando to the East side of the city, usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You can join whenever it passes you, which you can find out by tracking the Bike Bus with the tracker app. It’s a great way to save gas and to get fit. Click here to find out times and other specifics.
This week we welcomed Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office to the Best Foot Forward for Pedestrian Safety team! Solid progress as we met with the Central Florida Hotel and Lodging Association, Orange County, The City of Winter Park, and solidified ties with I-Drive merchants. Still working on getting together with the Florida Highway Patrol Command. Still targeting a public launch Mid-May.
Are Cyclists Better Customers than Drivers?
Tanya Snyder thinks so. She says since cyclists shop near their homes, they better support local businesses, especially those that provide bike racks. It makes economic sense for the cyclists, because they save the car costs (gas, maintenance, etc.) and it makes economic sense for the businesses who rack in more customers. Unless specifically designated as a trail ride, our rides take place on public streets. Headlights and red rear flashers are required for night rides. Helmets are encouraged, and are required for children under 16.
We observe all traffic laws and traffic signals.
Our rides are typically 10 to 15 miles, roundtrip, and average 10 miles an hour, a comfortable pace for most adults and teens. May be too fast for younger children and adults with health issues.
These rides are social in nature.
For longer, more aggressive group rides, subscribe to Hal Downing’s group ride newsletter by emailing [email protected] .
If you have a social ride you would like us to help promote, please email me at the address below.
