Tomorrow, April 21, Earth Day celebration at Lake Eola. Bike/Walk Central Florida will be hosting a Bike Valet. We need volunteers to man the Bike Valet table (in one or two hour shifts – you don’t have to work all day) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Volunteers are needed for set up, tear down, and table manning. Your time is very much appreciated. Please email me at [email protected] to let me know if we can count on you to fill one of the 10 two-person shifts. Thanks, again!
The City of Winter Park wants your input at its “Pedestrian and Bicycle Connectivity Forum” on Thursday, April 26, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Winter Park plans to be a more walkable and bicycle-friendly city and wants to hear from you. Get more information at this link!
Oh, those wacky Dutch. The Netherlands’ government released this video as a campaign to reduce speeding in town. Kind of raises the bar for PSAs for our Best Foot Forward for Pedestrian Safety campaign.
Speaking of Best Foot Forward . . . The Orange County School Board this week told us they would be vetting the WalkSafe pedestrian education curriculum this summer for possible use, districtwide, this fall. This is a significant development. Fingers crossed. Want to be a hero? When was the last time you saved a life? Right now, in Central Florida, we’re killing a pedestrian a week and injuring two every day. We know we can do better, and we’ve got the data from other markets that have tried, and succeeded. Your contributions of $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, or more, can make a big difference. Checks should be made out to the Florida Bicycle Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and mailed to: Betsy Holl at: P.O. Box 916715, Longwood, FL 32793-6715. Please specify that you are donating to Best Foot Forward.
This weekend, April 20 & 21st, is the April Cycling Savvy class. Attendees will learn how to drive their bikes safely in the streets and will learn the rules of the road as they apply to bikes. May dates will be posted soon.

Unless specifically designated as a trail ride, our rides take place on public streets. Headlights and red rear flashers are required for night rides. Helmets are encouraged, and are required for children under 16.
We observe all traffic laws and traffic signals.
Our rides are typically 10 to 15 miles, roundtrip, and average 10 miles an hour, a comfortable pace for most adults and teens. May be too fast for younger children and adults with health issues.
These rides are social in nature.
For longer, more aggressive group rides, subscribe to Hal Downing’s group ride newsletter by emailing [email protected] .
If you have a social ride you would like us to help promote, please email me at the address below.
