This event isn’t just a bike ride! It is a journey through our community’s rich history.On January 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing enslaved people in the rebelling Southern states. It was not until May 20, 1865, that the state of Florida was finally freed and the Emancipation Proclamation was actually in effect.

In celebration of this historic date in Florida, this ride will take you through some incredible black communities and historic buildings that help shape Central Florida. Participate in the 2nd Annual Ride to Freedom – Sanford, FL, on May 20, 2023.

Every registered rider will receive a complimentary Ride to Freedom t-shirt, snack & drinks before and during rides (sag stops), and lunch at Hopper’s Academy.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Bicikleta’s Sanford For Cycling, a program to inspire and empower all children in our community to lead healthy, active, and goal-driven lives through cycling.
