Spreading the news about bike and pedestrian safety – here’s a few highlights.
Let’s start off with a May and June recap. Rain didn’t stop the fun at Get Fit Day at Eagles Nest Park in Orlando in May, where The No Limits vision to progressively influence the health, education and personal development of the lives we touch was a perfect marriage with BFF’s mission to improve the health and wellness of people walking on our Central Florida streets.
“I drive all day for my work and I did not know this was the law.” That’s what a man atCircles Orange County’s June meeting said after hearing the BFF presentation in Winter Garden. That same man asked BFF to speak to the entire fleet of drivers at his organization. Informing just one person of the yield for pedestrian law can go a long distance in changing Central Florida’s viewpoints.
Thank you to all the proactive teenagers, like Grace, who attended the Orlando Science Center’s Safety Week. Grace recently received her drivers’ permit and wanted to learn about how she can be a safe driver.#iY4Peds. There were plenty of parents and children who were enjoying their summer break with a visit to the science center. The kids all said they like to walk to school, but said sometimes cars don’t stop for them. They are grateful for the school crossing guards.
A big complaint from residents with the Orlo Vista Safe Neighborhood group was the speeding motorists along Kirkman Road, between Old Winter Garden Road and Washington Street. That roadway, which is a six lane road, runs alongside Orlo Vista Elementary School and is already very difficult for people to walk across. The speeding cars, just makes it that much more dangerous.
