The Fortune-Lakeshore Multi-Use Trail Project in Osceola County, Florida, is currently underway! The new 10-foot-wide trail will run along Fortune Rd. and East Lakeshore Blvd. and connect U.S. Highway 192 to an existing St. Cloud trailhead. Spanning approximately seven miles, the Fortune-Lakeshore Trail will ensure the safety of multiple users and provide connectivity to a larger pedestrian network.
“Adding options for safe cycling is a great asset for our community,” said District 2 Commissioner Viviana Janer. The project makes significant safety improvements to the area, including a pedestrian bridge crossing the St. Cloud Canal.
Five new crosswalks will be installed, and 11 existing crosswalks will be removed and repainted to meet current standards, known as “special emphasis crosswalks.” This type of striping can help boost crosswalk visibility for drivers. Improvements, including the restriping, are also planned at the following signalized intersections:
- U.S. 192
- Shake Rag Road
- Bill Beck Boulevard
- Lakeside Drive
- Partin Settlement Road
People walking aren’t the only ones who will benefit from the trail. “This is a significant project which expands our trail network and will allow residents to enjoy safer cycling options,” said District 4 Commissioner Cheryl Grieb. “Eventually, it will also connect to the planned bike path along the St. Cloud canal, making for a natural connection to Downtown Kissimmee via Neptune and continuing all the way to Shingle Creek.”
Construction is expected to be complete by the end of the year. Visit Osceola County’s website to learn about the Fortune-Lakeshore Trail project and to get the latest updates.
