On September 21, FDOT, ReThink, BWCF, City of Orlando, and LYNX collaborated to organize Orlando’s first Ciclovia – an event that closed Robinson Street to automobiles and allow pedestrians and cyclists to walk, bike, and roll freely.
Hundreds of area residents and bike enthusiasts came out to have fun stretching to yoga, racing tricycles, and competing in games of giant chess and checkerboards. BWCF provided free bike helmets and fittings for both children and adults. Cycling Savvy took cyclists on organized rides, educating bike-riders on how best to ride on roads and their responsibilities as bicyclists.
Thanks to Courtney and Zack at ReThink, FDOT, City of Orlando, MetroPlan Orlando, and Lynx for sponsoring this event. And a shout out to FDOT Secretary Ananth Prasad for his commitment to having all the FDOT districts host a Ciclovia event in their area. Look for the next Ciclovia event taking place in Tampa (called “Cyclovia) on October 19th.
