Biking to work is much more fun when you’re with Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. But first, you have to take a selfie before your face turns into a river of sweat with the temps rising faster than a space rocket.
This year Bike to Work had the added benefit of Dyer riding the new official Mayor’s Bike, #BuddysBike, which was released into the Juice Bike Share program as part of the expansion. #BuddysBike plus a record number of riders – more than 225 – including Commissioners Patty Sheehan and Robert F. Stuart – was more than impressive. The ride started at Loch Haven Park where people rallied and then rode along the Orlando Urban Trail to City Hall. Here, colleagues, visitors, and news trucks greeted riders. And, awards were given to those companies and organizations who had the largest group of cyclists. Looks like HDR and VHB took top spots.
A big shout out to this year’s sponsors – Bikes, Beans & Bordeaux, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Kyle’s Bike Shop, Juice Bike Share, reThink, Retro City Cycles and Winter Park Cycles. Another big shout out to Juice Bike Share expanding to a total of 20 different hub locations around the city this month, too.
