Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs is on a mission – move people and goods safely – and remove Central Florida’s stigma as the most dangerous place for walkers. And she’s putting her Best Foot Forward once again by designating $15 million to sidewalks and other safety projects as part of her proposed $300 million plan, called “INVEST in Our Home for Life,” for roads, parks, public safety facilities and new housing initiatives announced at her State of the County address in June. You can expect this total package to be discussed at an upcoming Orange County Commission board meeting.
Mayor Jacobs said it best: “We’re dreaming big!!” Luckily for OC residents and visitors, her dreams do become a reality. The county already has so much to be proud of – 62 million visitors, University of Central Florida boasts the largest undergraduate student population in the U.S., and more. And with the investment of funds into pedestrian improvements, Orange County can continue its efforts to eliminate its “dangerous” title.
