Parents and children of Brookshire Elementary are noticing a big perk as they return to school this week – a safer stretch of roadway to make it to class.
The Orlando and Winter Park area got its first cycle track this summer. A cycle track, or protected bike lane, – is really just an extra-large bike lane that is separated and protected from motor traffic. In this case, plastic bollards separate and protect bicyclists from cars. The half-mile cycle track runs along Cady Way, between Cady Way Trail and Perth Lane, near Brookshire Elementary.
Bike/Walk Central Florida was featured on FOX 35 this week talking about the new cycle tracks with BWCF Board Member, Rick Geller, and his daughter, Melissa. They got to experience the track first hand as they rode to Brookshire Elementary for Melissa’s first day of school. Thank you Winter Park Health Foundation, BWCF Board Member Rick Geller, andCity of Winter Park for making the bike ride to school and the accessibility to Cady Way Trail safer for all residents.
