Florida Bike Month 2019 is drawing to a close, and National Bike Month is just around the corner in May, but who says the celebration has to be limited to just two months? You’ve come to the right place for four tips on making every month feel like Bike Month. Here are some tips for keeping your enthusiasm for biking going strong all year-round:
Explore new trails
Florida has tons of trails to explore and new trails are seemingly popping up left and right. Trust us, there’s a trail out there for you whether you’re a cycle star or a biking newbie! You can spend the day exploring Orlando on the Urban Trail, or camp out overnight on the St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop. Here’s an idea: Participate in a “Trail Challenge” where you bike a different trail each month!
Make some friends who bike
Having friends in the cycling community is a great way to stay motivated to ride year-round. Spend some more time in your local bike shop, hit up some upcoming local events, or join a cycling club. Group rides like Bike 5 Cities are innately social—bring some old friends and meet some new ones to keep you riding!
Switch up your commute
It’s no secret that being stuck in traffic is the worst. The good news is that there is an alternative: ride your bike to work! Not only does biking to work get you moving, it takes one more car off the road. Map your route, learn the rules of the road, and head to work on two wheels next Monday morning. You might even inspire your coworkers to do the same.
Learn something new
Do you know how to change a tire on your bike? Or how to properly fit a bike helmet? There’s so much more to explore in the world of cycling than just riding. Let your interests guide you: learn more about your bike, your gear, the laws, the history of local trails—anything!
In Central Florida, squeezing all the fun into one bike month is impossible. There will always be more trails to ride, friends to make, and things to learn. It’s never too late to get out and enjoy all that Florida has to offer to the cycling community!
