Think there’s no mountain biking here amongst the pancake landscape of Central Florida?
The Orlando chapter of the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association would like to show you otherwise. Granted, you won’t find Colorado-ish climbs or Utah-esque canyons, but there are other varieties of off-road thrills.
This Saturday, the 2-year-old club is holding an off-road time-trial at the Markham Woods Mountain Bike Trail, 8515 Markham Road in Lake Mary. Show up at 10 a.m. to check it out, join the ride or find out more about the club, which holds races and organizes trail-building events.
With little fanfare, the organization already has attracted 60 members.
“We’re still kind of new,” says co-founder Mitchell Greenberg, “but we have the potential to be one of the biggest clubs in the Southeast. We just need to get the word out.”
Consider it out. For more information on Saturday’s event and the club, see sorbaorlando.com.
