Denning Drive is still on track to get a much-needed makeover in the City of Winter Park.
We’re talking real change that will make this street more than just a thoroughfare for cars. The City envisions a Denning Drive that is a place for people – people of all ages and abilities to safely bike, walk, ride the bus, drive and be merry. And the BWCF board continues to support the City moving forward with this project.
Imagine a shared-used path connecting people biking and walking to Martin Luther King Park between Solana and Fairbanks Avenues. Essentially a linear park. And no more broken sidewalks. More crosswalks. More certainty about getting from Point A to Point B without a car.
Oh and get this – dropping down from four lanes to two lanes will have little (4.3 seconds) to no impact on driver commute times. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) also reports “right-sizing” projects like this can lead to a 19-47% decrease in crashes.
The City of Winter Park plans to hold two public meetings in May and June to gather input from the community. The first meeting will be a public workshop on Thursday, May 12 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Rachel D. Murrah Civic Center (1050 W. Morse Blvd). It is open to the public.
