Bike/Walk Central Floirda’s 2020 New Year’s Resolutions

2019 was a great year for BWCF, and we hope it was for you, too! Though we accomplished a ton (and had a lot of fun doing it), there are still plenty more things in store for 2020! Here are our New Year’s resolutions as we enter a new decade of bike/ped advocacy:

  1. Ride the Central Florida Trail Network

So many more connections are in the works for Orlando’s Bicycle Beltway, and there are already so many great options to ride! As local cities and counties make progress in closing the gaps, we commit to jumping on our bikes more often to explore everything from Orlando’s Bicycle Beltway to the West Orange Trail to the Shingle Creek and Kissimmee Loop trails. What’s your favorite?

  1. Bike across the Colonial pedestrian bridge

We celebrated the grand opening of the Colonial bike/ped bridge nine months ago, but riding over it never gets old! In 2020, we’re riding comfortably – away from cars on one of Orlando’s great cycling and walking resources!

  1. Walk around the new creative village

With phase one of the project completed in August, our resolution is to take a walk around Orlando’s new Creative Village in 2020! A new, transit-oriented development, the Creative Village has a ton to offer for bikers, walkers, and pretty much everyone else!

  1. Work with Lindy (the Purple Bike Lady) to drop more eggs

Englewood Neighborhood Center

What’s a bike safety lesson without Lindy Moore’s classic egg drop?  If you haven’t heard of it, she drops an egg to the ground with and without foam padding – like a helmet would provide – to demonstrate what happens to your head when you don’t wear a helmet. We can’t wait to partner with the purple bike lady again this year to drop more eggs and encourage more bicyclists to wear their helmet every time they ride.

  1. Give away more free bike helmets

Dover Shores Community Center

This year, we had to the chance to attend dozens of events and properly fit hundreds of Central Florida kids with brand new, free helmets. They were provided courtesy of and FDOT grant. Helmets are one of the most important parts of bike safety and can save lives in a crash! In 2020, we want to break our record and fit more helmets than ever before.
