Residents living around Oak Ridge Road between Millenia Boulevard and Orange Blossom Trail (US 441) may be getting a make-over — a “concrete” make-over where sidewalks get fatter, roads skinnier and medians wide enough for bicycles, wheelchairs, and strollers.
This is all part of Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs’ INVEST in our Home for Life initiative that allocates $15 million over the next five years in stand-out solutions for people on foot and wheels. For Oak Ridge Road, we’re thinking modern signals, curb extension, and native foliage to make crossing more comfortable, safer and travel-friendly regardless of age.
Orange County is in the study process. What this means is their team is compiling traffic data, analyzing walking and biking behaviors, understanding people/car collisions, and gathering comments from residents, businesses and schools to ensure Oak Ridge Road is optimized and outfitted for the slowest biker, fastest walker and largest car.
