The best way to start the day off is on a bike. That’s why Bike/Walk Central Florida joined Mayor Dyer, Orlando Commissioners Patty Sheehan, Robert Stuart and Tony Ortiz for the City of Orlando’s 19th Annual Bike to Work Day with the Mayor. Bike to Work Day is part of Mobility Week, adhering to the goal of supporting and educating the community on alternate transportation methods.
At 8 o’clock over 200 bike riders, a 150 person increase from the previous year, took over Robinson Street in Downtown Orlando on their route to City Hall, accompanied by Orlando Police Department Officers and Bike Patrol. The group ride ended with a final word from Mayor Dyer before everyone headed out to tackle the rest of their day, an early workout already in the books.
If you missed out on the fun, you’re in luck. Mayor Dyer shared a great video from the event that puts you right in the middle of the action. You can also check out our Facebook page to see additional videos of the ride and our Flickr page to see if you made it in one of our photos.
Shout out to event sponsors such as the Florida Department of Transportation, reThink Your Commute, LYNX, Central Florida Expressway Authority and VHB for fueling up participants before the ride. And of course, a huge thank you to the City of Orlando for hosting yet another great Bike to Work Day event and continuing to prioritize biking in the city.
