Bike Winter Park rolls out FL Bike Month, showcases Denning Dr. bike path

The City of Winter Park kicked off Florida Bike Month in style Thursday with its fifth annual “Bike Winter Park.” The group bike ride showcased its vibrant neighborhoods followed by a happy-, healthy hour.

Winter Park’s Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) and Healthy Central Florida organized the event again this year. TAB’s Chairman David Erne welcomed more than 60 participants and thanked sponsors REI and Park Social and on-hand supporters including Winter Park Police, reThink your Commute, Rollins College staff and Bike/Walk Central Florida.

A parade of riders wearing bright red rolled from Central Park to cruise the four-and-a-half mile route. Winter Park Police Chief Michael Deal started the ride with fellow officers providing support at busy intersections.  This year’s route was altered slightly to showcase the newly constructed bike path along Denning Drive.

Afterwards, the riders gathered at Park Social to mingle with friends and neighbors and hopefully plan more year-round bicycling fun together.

Thanks to Winter Park staff!

reThink your commute supports this and other events to promote trying other modes of transportation than single driver autos.

BWCF staff enjoyed being on hand to participate and support the event.
