Job Alert: Join the BWCF team as a Community Outreach & Presentation Specialist

Are you passionate about biking and walking in Central Florida? Do you have strong communication skills that allow you to connect with diverse audiences? Are you eager to use those skills to support a healthy community environment? Then BWCF wants to hear from you. We currently have two positions available for a Community Outreach & Presentation Specialist: one in Orange County, and one in Osceola County. Each will represent BWCF at community and public engagements.

Contract Position Summary

Title: Community Outreach & Presentation Specialist

Location: Orange County

Reports to: Bike/Walk Central Florida Program Manager

Summary: Seeking person to fill contract position to provide outreach and presentation support by educating the public and professionals through (a) representing Bike/Walk Central Florida (BWCF) at community and public engagements in Orange County (b) conducting presentations (c) tabling at local events and (d) documenting activities.

Description

  • Make public presentations to groups, ranging from youth groups, neighborhood associations and rotary clubs to seniors; explain bike and pedestrian laws and related BWCF programs to the public; respond effectively to citizen inquiries and prepare and maintain a variety of reports, and schedules. Objective is 24 presentations over the course of 12 months from start date. This averages to 2 per month.
  • Table 20 events such as health fairs, back to school, and community days over the course of 12 months.
  • Assist the team to collect surveys from people walking and biking near certain corridors and neighborhoods or at the events for research purposes.
  • Responsible for identifying and scheduling BWCF presentations and events.
  • Responsible for collecting the names and emails of people interested in BWCF programs and enter information into database; Follow-up as requested.
  • Document and prepare reports of outreach activities.
  • Distribute BWCF educational materials to local agencies, partners, businesses and community organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Commitment to bicycling and walking, and those programs supporting a healthy community environment
  • Excellent presentation skills; Must be an engaging public speaker who can connect with a variety of audiences and possess consensus-building skills
  • Close attention to detail with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to track, meet and maintain deadlines
  • Ability to work with a diverse team to ensure compliance with all requirements and funding restrictions
  • Enthusiastic, high-energy, resourceful and proactive thinker with a sense of urgency
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout Orange County

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work a flexible schedule including weekends, weekdays, evenings (hours/days may be adjusted as needed) because many of the community and business groups hold meetings during these times
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout Orange County
  • Possess a Florida Driver License
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check

Contract

Hourly Fee:       $16.50/hour

Estimated

Hours: 350 hours for 12 months; This averages to 30 hours per month. You are able to work from home and may be asked to attend BWCF staff meetings, BWCF trainings or other activities in the office – schedules permitting.

Incentives:    $40 for each presentation completed – goal is 24 presentations

$30 for each tabling event completed – goal is 20 events

$1,560: Total incentive amount

Survey Incentives: $15 for 6 surveys completed. Example: 3 packets of 6 surveys (18) would be $45.

About Bike/Walk Central Florida and the Best Foot Forward program

Bike/Walk Central Florida, a 501(c)(3) organization, promotes walkable and bikeable communities through raising public awareness and advocating for safe, active transportation, and recreation by:

  • Educating walkers, cyclists, motorists and transit riders about Florida’s road laws, their rights, responsibilities, and courteous behaviors;

The initiative is to reduce pedestrian deaths and injuries in Metro Orlando by getting drivers to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and getting pedestrians to be more careful crossing the street. More than a campaign, this “Triple-E” behavioral change process seeks to create lasting social good through the consistent and persistent application of low-cost engineering, community education, and high-visibility enforcement.
