Update: September 17
The Cady Way Trail bridge between Forsyth Rd. & Palmetto Ave. is well on its way to reconstruction! Orange County Parks and Recreation shared a progress picture on September 16, displaying repairs to the bridge’s structure and a ramp ready for new asphalt to be poured.
The project is estimated to be completed by October 31. Thanks again Orange County, we can’t wait to get back out on the trail!

Users of the Cady Way Trail have faced an unwelcome detour this summer. In late May, the wooden bridge between Forsyth Road and Palmetto Avenue was severely damaged by fire, forcing Orange County to temporarily close that section of the trail. Orange County Parks and Recreation realized the importance of repairing the bridge as quickly as possible, and thanks to their dedicated staff, the bridge is on track for reconstruction.
The extensive damage to the bridge required Orange County to hire an engineering firm to develop new design drawings. They started that process and the permitting process immediately. Construction bids were received on July 24, and selection was completed the following week.
County staff are now coordinating with the contractor to purchase the necessary materials and obtain equipment and permits to begin construction. Once the contractor receives all materials, Orange County estimates it will take 30 days to complete all work. They anticipate the trail section will be back open by the end of September or early October.
Kudos to Orange County Parks and Recreation for fast-tracking this repair project, so that more Central Floridians can continue enjoying our great trails!
