Celebrate FL Bike Month with UCF Bike Week 2016

bikeweekMarch is Florida Bike Month and the University of Central Florida is celebrating with a week-long bike extravaganza highlighting safety, sustainability, and sport.

March 21st (Monday)

Bike Week Kickoff – Student Union Patio

Join us from 11am – 2pm in front of the Student Union to learn more about Bike Week. UCF Cycling and Bike related Clubs, local bike vendors and community transportation partners will be on hand to share information about bicycle safety, sustainability and sporting opportunities.

March 22nd (Tuesday)

Slow Bike Race

Join us outside the RWC (on the southeast side of the building near the Nike/Hercules courtyard) for a chance to win top prize as UCF’s slowest cyclist. See the link below for an example and a map of the competition site. Students can participate between 3pm and 4pm for qualifying heats, with the finals taking place between 4pm and 4:30pm. SGA Bike Share bikes are available for the competition. Racers will cross the starting line and must continue moving forward in their lane towards the finish line. Feet touching the ground or stopping will end the race! Full rules will be shared at the event.

Spokes Council Group Ride

The Spokes Council is a bike RSO at UCF whose main goal is to facilitate a growth of all types of bike culture in the UCF area. Join them for a weekly ride by meeting next to the bike racks on the south side of the Student Union (across from the College of Sciences). Arrive by 7:45pm to be lead on a ride through campus and onto the Econ Trail. Bring your own Bike or check out an SGA Bike Share bike anytime during the day.

March 23rd (Wednesday)

Bike to UCF Day

Changing the culture of commuting to campus for school or work has tremendous sustainability benefits for UCF. We encourage all bicycle owners (or borrowers) to safely commute to and through campus on Wednesday. Share your commute with us by using the hashtag #BikeUCF so we can see the collective benefit! Participants will earn a prizes for participating including t-shirts, helmets and more!

Spin Under the Stars

Join us outside of the RWC on the Leisure Pool Green as we host our popular outdoor Spin Class! Pre-registration is required with 32 available spots. The class will take place at 9:30pm with pre-registered participants arriving by 9:15pm. Please bring a water bottle and towel. Registration will be available at the RWC Group Exercise page link below starting at 9:30pm on Tuesday (24 hours prior).

March 24th (Thursday)

Cycling Savvy Bicycle Safety Presentation

Join us at the RWC in Room 206 at 11am for a 1-hour presentation on Bicycle Safety by Cycling Savvy. CyclingSavvy is a program of American Bicycling Education Association, Inc. (ABEA). The course teaches the principles of Mindful Bicycling. This presentation is an abbreviated version of the 3-part course offered by Cycling Savvy.

UCF Trail Ride

Join the RWC’s Outdoor Adventure Program as we take students on a guided tour through some of our campus trails. Students should register at the link below. The RWC does have mountain bikes for a limit of 12 participants, or students can use their own appropriate bike. Registered students will be contacted with meeting details. The ride will begin at 3pm.
