Titusville recognized as Florida’s second Trail Town

Congratulations are in order for the City of Titusville. This summer, the city became Florida’s second Trail Town, a designation awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

Titusville is no stranger to trails, seeing as it provides access to three long-distance trails:

  • The C2C will connect the East and West coasts of Florida, with Titusville as the starting point for the 250-mile long route. Learn more here.
  • The St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop is 260-miles of pristine Florida nature and wildlife. Learn more here.
  • The East Coast Greenway is set to be the nation’s longest connecting route at 3,000 miles, running from Key West, Florida to Calais, Maine. Learn more here.

But, being close to a trail isn’t enough to get you an invite to the Florida Trail Town club. If a town is recognized, that means that it is enticing enough to get riders to temporarily ditch the trail and explore the area, and that’s easy in Titusville. The city offers unique shops, local restaurants and an interesting history. We can’t forget walkability and bikeability, so expect to see numerous bike racks, wide sidewalks and bike rental and service shops. We know what you’re thinking – it’s a dream come true for people who wish to explore cities outside of their cars.

Not surprisingly, these trails are boosting the local economy in Titusville, inspiring residents, local leadership and business owners to come together to create a community ideal for trail-goers. Recent additions include a Welcome Center with a bicycle repair/rental shop and a one-way Main Street that boasts safety for people biking and walking. Plus, you can’t beat the local fun as various merchants offer quirky products and local delicacies (Florida rock shrimp, anyone?)

You can watch the town’s evolution and see the community effort in this video that welcomes visitors to experience the town’s “natural treasures,” such as the great trails surrounding the city.

Whether you are a Floridian or a visitor, it’s worth giving this new Trail Town a visit. Way to go, Titusville.
