Google Maps

A route-planner’s best friend is Google Maps satellite and street views. The new feature for directions by bike also highlights many of the area’s trails (it also lists a number of unimproved sidewalks as trails, so beware). The satellite view can be useful for finding features like traffic lights to cross major roads, determining if a road is surfaced with asphalt, brick or dirt or if the road has bike lanes. Streetview can help you identify landmarks along your route.
