Walking and biking in Orlando – it counts

healthy-egg-mcmuffin-with-jelly-016Thousands of people are using the city’s ped and bike trails.  Over the period of a month, 35,864 walkers and bikers used facilities at Lake Underhill and Gertrude’s Walk.

The City of Orlando is placing pedestrian and bike counters throughout the city to track pedestrian and cyclists’ habits. The Lake Eola Path and Urban Trail were tracked during June-July, totaling 90,051 people. Next came the Lake Baldwin and Cady Way trails, tracked from July-August and totaling 36,798 bikers and walkers.

So why’s this so important? Well, it sets a baseline. The data gathered from the program will be used to provide a comprehensive look at Orlando’s bike/ped infrastructure needs.
