ORLANDO, Fla. — (May 3, 2017) — Bike/Walk Central Florida (BWCF) announces the addition of former Orange County Commissioner Scott Boyd and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Passenger Operations Manager Brenda Young to its board of directors. Boyd and Young join 10 other regional board members to support walkable and bikeable community initiatives throughout Central Florida.

“Both Scott and Brenda add to the board a depth of knowledge about the regional transportation system and share a commitment to making walking and biking safer and more accessible throughout our community,” said Amanda Day, BWCF executive director. “The entire region will benefit from their representation on the Bike/Walk Central Florida board.”

Boyd’s public service has included significant leadership roles in driving regional policy and infrastructure improvements. He served as county commissioner for Orange County District 1 from 2008-2016, and currently serves as Chairman of MetroPlan Orlando, as a Central Florida Regional Planning Council board member, as vice-chair of the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) Board, and as the vice chairman of the West Orange South Lake Transportation and Economic Development Task Force.

“I am one of tens of thousands of area residents who are making biking and walking a greater priority in their daily lives,” said Boyd. “With Bike/Walk Central Florida, I will be able to extend my public service to advocate for greater access and safety for Central Florida cyclists and pedestrians.”

Every day, Young focuses on the future of our regional transportation system as the Passenger Operations Manager for FDOT. In her role, she oversees bicyclist, pedestrian and commuter assistance programs and is the District 5 champion for FDOT’s bicycle and pedestrian safety initiative.  She also serves on the Central Florida Transportation Planning Group board (formerly the Central Florida Traffic Data Users Group).

“Walking, biking and transit options are vital to a healthy community and a smart transportation system,” said Young, who often bikes to and from work.  “Pedestrian and bicycle transportation options are in greater demand by residents, and they contribute to a more sustainable infrastructure, environment and economy.”
