  • Go on a social ride (socially-distanced, of course)

Go on a social bike ride i.e. Critical Mass or Florida Freewheelers or with any number of other great club listed on our resources page.

  • Get out of the car line and get on your bikes

Biking to school is one of the best ways to start the day, for children and parents!

Do you have a child in school? With so many of us working remotely, it’s the perfect time to make riding to school with our children a habit. Even if you can’t do it every day, commit to a day or two each week to ride with your child to and from school instead of sitting in the car line. Not only is it good for everyone’s health, these little moments together are priceless.

  • Help organize a bike-to-school day at your local school

Take it one step farther and contact your school about volunteering to help coordinate Bike-to-School Day on May 5. It’s an easy way to show your children and neighbors how marvelous a quick trip on your bike to get the day started can be. Need help or ideas? Here’s a link to get you rolling.

  • You aren’t stuck in traffic, you are traffic: Don’t be.

Challenge yourself to bike somewhere you might have driven this month

Challenge yourself to commute at least once a week this month via bike. Bike to a date, a neighbor’s driveway BBQ, school, the farmer’s market, the bank, the bus stop, a SunRail station, etc. Where ever you need to go, ride your bike instead of driving your car. You’ll be glad you did. Click here for some tips or encouragement to get started.

  • Be a squeaky wheel for bicycling safety and infrastructure

You can be the squeaky wheel who gets attention for bicycling safety improvements in Florida. Become an advocate for bicycling safety and infrastructure improvements.

Ask your Florida House Representative/Senator to support and/or co-sponsor legislation to improve bicycling safety. The Florida Bicycle Association (FBA) is currently asking representatives to expand the current “Move Over Law” to include PEOPLE. For more information on how you can help make this happen, click here.

  • If you see something, say something…

Do you notice unsafe conditions on your regular bicycle or walking route? Let your local county know. In Orange County, call 311; in Seminole County call 407-665-ROAD (7623) or go to SeminoleCountyFL.gov; in Osceola County call 407-742-7500 or go to Osceola.org.

  • Take the lead in encouraging new riders

Florida Bicycle Association (FBA) is offering a virtual certified Ride Leader / Ride Marshall certification classes in March and again in May. Whether you are leading a community ride, a club ride or a major charity bicycling event over multiple days, FBA has the cycling education program for you.

If you are an experienced rider, consider volunteering to lead a small group this fall in our annual Bike 5 Cities. Send us an email to [email protected] and let us know you are interested.
