Take Over the Trails Day: A Celebration of Community, Health, and our Beautiful Trails!

Last month we were honored to take part in Take Over the Trails Day, an event celebrated with enthusiasm on Thursday, February 22, in Oakland, Florida. This day was all about coming together, promoting health and wellness, and embracing the beauty of the outdoors. The turnout exceeded our expectations, making it a truly memorable occasion.

The West Orange Trail buzzed with energy as our community partners set up along the trail, offering engaging activities, giveaways, and valuable safety information. It was wonderful to see individuals and families of all ages enjoying the trail in various ways – walking, running, and rolling.

A highlight of the event was the chance to learn more about the impactful work of the Healthy West Orange Trails Connection. Their dedication to maintaining and enhancing our local trails is truly commendable, and the event provided an excellent platform to raise awareness and encourage community support for their initiatives. The event also served as the grand finale for the Trail Blazers Challenge, which was met with enthusiasm and excitement. Participants, who had been actively exploring our local trails and green spaces, eagerly participated in the raffle for fantastic prizes. Congratulations to the winners, and a big thank you to all who took part in the challenge.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our participating partners: Foundations for a Healthier West Orange, the municipal leadership from the Town of Oakland, and the Cities of Winter Garden, Ocoee, and Windermere. Recognition is also due to Orange County District 1, personified by Commissioner Nicole Wilson, along with the Orange County Parks and Recreation Department; the Oakland Nature Preserve; Friends of Lake Apopka; the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council; Winter Garden Wheelworks; the Vision Zero Action Committee; and the Federal Department of Transportation for their essential contributions.

Our steering committee members and community partners played a crucial role in the success of the event. Your presence added immense value, and we appreciate your commitment to building a healthier community. Take Over the Trails Day showcased the strength of our community and the shared dedication to well-being.

As we reflect on the success of Take Over the Trails Day, we’re inspired to continue fostering a strong, connected, and healthy community. Stay tuned for more upcoming events and initiatives that will further enhance the well-being of our community. Thank you to everyone who made Take Over the Trails Day a resounding success. Together, we are creating a healthier and happier West Orange!
