Winter Park High is on a Roll

bikes at wp highStudents at Winter Park High School are going above and beyond by implementing a bike share program that reminds everyone that biking is great exercise.

Meg Pietkiewicz, a teacher at WPHS, believed that having a bike share program would benefit students that needed a ride home or to get some exercise.  Now, students will have the opportunity to check out bikes daily and even on the weekends.

Mrs. Pietkiewicz and her students – who are part of a Live.Life.Healthy group at the school – have installed odometers on the bikes. They even hope to have a Bike Rally (scavenger hunt on bikes) with the bikes in the spring. WPHS students will have plenty of opportunities to use their bikes and they are ready to get started.

Matt Johnson, a bike enthusiast and teacher at WPHS, joined the bike movement by launching a Bike Club. He plans on doing group rides through trails such as the Cady Way Trail, which is conveniently located behind the school.

BWCF joined the movement and donated 25 helmets for the students to use. WPHS revealed the bike share program on September 24th at their Live.Life.Healthy Health Fair. Now that they have their bikes, helmets, locks, and odometers, these students are ready to roll – literally. Keep up with the adventures on their Twitter page.
